February 2021 Newsletter

A Message From Mr. Ruhl:

I welcome 2021 and I'm sure you do too.  We can all see a light at the end of the tunnel.  Yes, it may still be 6 months off, but there is light.  Most of all I look forward to a little less complexity, frustration and the 3 pronged job of dad, teacher, principal.  I know I am not alone in that.

I'm sure everyone is now aware that E. Cook welcomes back all 245ish of our students on Thursday, February 18th (on the same day even).  It goes without saying that students do and feel better when they can learn and play in their school classrooms.  Part of my mission as a school principal is to be here on your behalf to assure your children thrive.  More than ever I am also here to assure they can do it safely.  Some key safeguards will be in place, while some will no longer be possible.  It is proven fact that the 2 biggest factors in stopping the spread of COVID-19 is personal hygiene and the use of masks.  The staff and I are diligent and determined to make this happen every minute of every day.  Our janitorial staff is also part of over detail with nighty sanitation processes well beyond the normal cleaning.

Be aware two big trade offs do exist with full in person school.  One, with all of our students and staff present social distancing is extremely difficult.  We will continue to be mindful of that and keep barriers up when possible.  Second, COVID-19 has all the same symptoms of the cold and flu.  Many students over the remainder of this winter and spring can and will get these symptoms. Expect that there will be precautionary quarantines.  Our nurse Mrs. Last will work with you to keep that time to a minimum while assuring everyone's safety. Be assured there are plans for maintaining school contact when students are on long quarantines.

I send you this today with the confidence in our ability to use precautionary measures to limit the spread of COVID-19.  Again I am, and I hope you are excited for our students' return to school.  Please know we are continually working to balance the benefits of in person school with significant safety measures to provide an enjoyable experience and create a new normal.

Feeding America - February 3rd, 2021

On Wednesday, February 3rd, OASD will once again be partnering with Feeding America to help distribute the Farm to Family boxes along with our school meals. To accommodate for this, we will be going down to one meal distribution on Wednesdays. The distribution will be from 4:30-6:30pm at Oshkosh West High School.

Family food boxes will be available to anyone in the community. Five days worth of meals from the school district will also be available for any child 18 and under. We encourage families looking for meals for eAcademy students, meals for student's virtual days or meals for children not yet enrolled in school to visit this distribution.

We are asking that anyone interested in picking up boxes or meals not enter the parking lot prior to 4pm to ensure students and staff can safely exit the parking lot before the distribution begins.
